ASI
or a common term for this breast feeding is very important thing for babies.
Breast feeding can provide new babies with colostrums and other important
nutrients that are beneficial for babies stamina in which morbidity and
mortality can be reduced especially with neonates. According to Indonesian
Government Program, human improvement quality can be achieved through among
others breast feeding program including colostrums. Therefore, the position of
Maternity Care hospital is vital for the new baby is not put separately with
the mother where the mother can directly give breast feeding to her new baby.
This research
is aimed at finding out factors associated with maternal colostrums for giving
birth in a public hospital dr. Agoesdjam District Ketapang. This is an
analytical descriptive research with survey method and cross sectional
approach. The population is the whole giving birth mothers in dr. Agoesdjam
Hospital District Ketapang, with simple random sampling which is 115 mothers.
The chi-square with uni-variant and be-variant is used for data analysis.
The research
results show that respondents who did not give colostrums is 52.2 %. With be-variant, variable significantly
associated with giving colostrums is education (p = 0.016), type of delivery (p
= 0.048), knowledge (p = 0.021), attitude (p = 0.011), the role of family (p =
0.012), the role of health workers (p = 0.036). While variables that are not
significantly associated with giving colostrums are age (p = 0.789) , and
parity (p = 0.497).
It is
recommended that dr. Agoesdjam Hospital can provide training with regard to
management of lactation for health workers regularly, provide lactation clinic
in the hospital to give intensive guidance and motivation on colostrums –
breast feeding to the mothers, and apply the early initiation program to each
